Last Monday the Junior League of Chicago (JLC) living room turned into a sight you don’t see everyday- a workout room!
Jennifer Chow, an instructor from the Barre Code came to the JLC’s HQ, and encouraged all of us to break a sweat! People work out for all types of reasons. The most common one is probably weight loss, but did you know physical activity also provides many health and wellness benefits? That may come as no surprise, but in turn, working out can also help prevent illness, increase posture and create an overall sense of well-being. Most of us do spend most of our day hunched over a computer, and that hour of exercise can truly be invigorating and propel us to continue making healthy habits.
Speaking of habits, on average it takes 66 days for a new behavior to become a habit. Jennifer reminded us to not to be discouraged by this, but to remember that no one is perfect, and to focus on the process, not the event. Remember that the journey to a healthier you starts by taking that first step. Don’t expect to see results overnight, it truly is a process.
If you find it hard to motivate yourself to work out alone, try getting a buddy! A work buddy, friend, or spouse are all good options. Listen to motivating music too. Jennifer had a great workout playlist for all the JLC’ers to listen too, while they planked and squatted. Many of the moves Jennifer showed us could even be done at home, or in a hotel room when you are away from home. If you can’t remember the exact move, you can always google, or youtube workout videos too.
I was so inspired by Jennifer’s class I actually signed up for a 10 pack at Barre Code the next day! They offer a variety of different classes, so hopefully everyone can find a class that works for them.
Happy Working Out!
