What if there was a way to alleviate tension headaches, allergy symptoms, muscle aches, and pains, and nearly anything else completely organically and naturally? With essential oils, it’s possible!
On the morning of March 25th, Wellness professional and doTERRA consultant, Anastasia Holcomb. and JLC member Lindsay Migley educated the women of the League on everyday uses for essential oils. She began by explaining what essential oils are, the differences between doTERRA oils and others on the market, and how to use them.
Essential oils are naturally occurring volatile aromatic compounds found in the seeds, bark, stems roots, flowers, and other parts of plants. The purpose of the oils is to protect the plants against environmental threats and provide beneficial properties, and have been used historically, back to ancient Egyptian and Chinese times for food preparation, beauty treatments, and healthcare practices. In the times of the Bubonic plague, thieves would cover their noses and mouths with clothes soaked in clove and cinnamon, known for their strong cleansing and immune support properties, so they wouldn’t get sick when robbing graves of their valuables. Amazing how a spice we probably all have in our cabinets can ward off bacteria and germs of that magnitude!
doTERRA essential oils are much different than others on the market, such as those you may find in grocery or health food stores, because doTERRA’s are 100% pure essential oil. “Even if there is only 1% essential oil in a product, it can still be labeled ‘100% Essential Oil’ in the marketplace,” Anastasia marveled. These products can be full of other synthetic and unnatural ingredients and chemicals and do more harm than good. doTERRA essential oils are certified pure therapeutic grade, sourced from a global network of growers to ensure the most pure and efficacious product. This means the lemon oil comes from Italy, and frankincense from Somalia- proving the oils come from the indigenous regions where they grow most organically.
Anastasia told many stories of the benefits of using essential oils for her own health and wellness, as well as for her husband and five children. One of the most awe-inducing was one about her husband, who was told by his doctor he would need surgery on his rotator cuff. Anastasia said, “let’s try and approach this naturally first, and if you still need the surgery, then we will do the surgery.” They used Deep Blue-which is a blend of oils, some of which include camphor, peppermint, and blue chamomile- as a rub on his shoulder twice a day. When he went in to see the doctor, he told him the surgery wasn’t necessary and was surprised at the healed rotator cuff!
Using essential oils is simple, and can be applied in three different ways. Essential oils, when diffused or inhaled, can be very stimulating, calming, or soothing; this is using an oil in an aromatic way. You can apply the oil on yourself to smell throughout the day, or use a diffuser in your home or office. Next, certain essential oils have a rich culinary history and can be used for dietary supplements for targeted wellness; this is using an oil in an internal way. Just be cautious to read labels, as not all oils can be ingested. Lastly, essential oils can be safely applied for massage or topical benefit, such as Anastasia’s husband did for his shoulder.
Essential oils are an amazing way to empower individuals to naturally manage the health of themselves and their families. Better sleep, higher energy levels, clearer skin, freedom from chronic pain, and much, much more can be achieved with the use of essential oils.
