Five Reasons to Attend the 2017 Summer Soiree

As the month of July comes to a close, I long for the days of my youth when summers seemed to last forever. Think nostalgic images of cannonballs, hide and go seek, and (my personal favorite) drag a running water hose to the top of your neighbor’s slide and charge kids $1 to ride.
Since joining the Junior League of Chicago, however, I no longer dread the end of the summer. In fact, I now always get to enjoy one last big hurrah before my favorite season officially comes to a close; JLC’s signature event, Summer Soiree!

As a true Summer Soiree “lifer,” I thought it would be timely and appropriate to share with you my top five reasons why I love this event and why you should definitely attend this year’s “Simple Yet Significant: A Mad ’60s Summer Soiree!”

1.)  1960’S THEME
I am a sucker for a great theme (ask me about my 31st birthday when you see me at the event) and this is one of the best I’ve seen us do yet!  If you’re looking for someinspiration look no further than a Netflix marathon of ‘Mad Men.’  Still lost on what to wear?  If so, reach out to the Junior League of Chicago’s very own, Rachel Pustejovsky, who is a stylist at Rent the Runway; ready and willing to style you in-theme while giving a portion of the proceeds back to the JLC! Looking to convince the gentlemen in your life to attend? The 1960s is a great male-friendly theme as well! I mean, c’mon, what guy doesn’t secretly want to look and dress like Don Draper?

Another feature at this year’s event that I am really jazzed about (see what I did there?) was that we were able to find great live music!  We actually stumbled across the Ryan Phillip’s Band during setup at the 2016 Summer Soiree as they were doing sound checks at Revel Fulton Market that same afternoon.  JLC member and Summer Soiree’s 2017 Co-Chair, Carolyn Mitchell, decided to get their information for future events and they were ecstatic to come and perform for us this year!

Calling all wine lovers!  While the raffle items this year are fantastic and worth putting in many tickets for, the cork swap booth is always a sure thing!  Bottles will be going for $20 each and are all guaranteed to be at least $20 in value if not much more.  As the daughter of a wine loving momma who donates many cases from her private cellar each year, I can assure that you will not walk away disappointed!

While it should go without saying, one of the best parts of joining the Junior League of Chicago, is getting to meet some of the coolest, smartest, and most fascinating women in the city.  Attending this event is no exception!  It’s always so fun to interact with other members and non-members that may not be a part of your normal social circle.  I can certainly say that it has been my time on the Summer Soiree committee these past three years that has been the reason for some truly great friendships that I know will last a lifetime!

If all other reasons haven’t convinced you, don’t worry, I’ve saved the best for last. The true reason you should buy your ticket to Summer Soiree is because sales and proceeds will help one of my favorite community partners, Blessings in a Backpack. Attend our event because no child should go hungry.  Buy your ticket because, for some kids at the Agassiz Elementary School of Lakeview, school lunches are the only meals they get.  Your ticket and donation will help feed children of our community that would otherwise have to go hungry during the 65 hours between the end of school on Friday and lunch on Monday.

We look forward to seeing you there!
